Of the endless cosmetic procedures and beauty regimens available to us today, Botox injections are one of the most sought-after treatments due to the effective, quick results they produce. We all know that one person who’s had Botox, giving them a youthful, well-rested look, and let’s be honest, we’ve all thought about doing it once or twice. But with the unknown comes an array of questions, and we at Lucere love to inform and educate our clients before undergoing any treatments or procedures. You have questions, and we’ve got the answers! Our expert injectors at Lucere provide answers to some of the most asked questions about Botox.

1. What is Botox?

Botox is an incredible solution for fine lines and wrinkles on our faces, yes, but it’s no magic! So, what is Botox and where does it come from? Botox comes from a neurotoxin produced by clostridium botulinum, which is the bacterium responsible for producing botulinum toxins. It sounds scary, but when used in very small doses, they create the basis for getting rid of those stubborn forehead lines and crow’s feet. When handled by an expertly trained professional, Botox can do more than just enhance our images cosmetically. Medically speaking, Botox can alleviate conditions such as intense headaches, excessive sweating, and even reduce jaw tension.

2. How do Botox Injections Work?

There’s definitely a reason why wrinkles often appear in predictable spots. We use specific muscle contractions due to commonly repeated expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, etc. Over time, these muscle contractions deepen and intensify the lines in our overlying skin, leaving our faces with wrinkles and fine lines. When Botox is injected, it temporarily blocks local nerve impulses by relaxing them, softening your expressions and reducing the undesired lines that come with them.

3. Where Can You Get Botox Injections?

Botox is mostly used to treat, reduce and prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in key areas on your forehead, between your eyebrows and the crow’s feet found around your eyes. Cosmetically, it can also be used to thin the face, decrease lines around the mouth/jaw, flip the lip and lift the corners of the mouth. In addition, Botox is extensively used to treat over 20 medical conditions, including migraines, jaw tension, eye squints, overactive bladders, excessive sweating (under the arms, hands and feet) as well as dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions or spasms). botox 101

4. How Much Botox Should You Have?

The amount of Botox you should have is based on your own unique set of factors such as the strength of your muscles that form these face lines in the first place. It is not based on how deep the lines are as Botox is not a filler. Other factors also include your age and sex (males require more units of Botox given their muscle strength compared to females). What needs to be determined is how much Botox is required to relax the muscle, thus reducing movement and lines on your face. The unit ranges for different areas in the face are as follows:

  • Forehead: 5-15 units
  • Glabella (between the eyebrows): 20-30 units
  • Eyebrow Lift: 10 units
  • Crow’s Feet: 10-30 units
  • Lip Lift: 4-8 units
  • Smile Lift: 10 units
  • Jaw: 15-60 units
  • Neck (to soften lines): 10-20 units
  • Nefertiti Lift: 20-30 units

Keep in mind that these ranges are an average, so we invite you to book your complimentary consultation with our injectable experts here at Lucere to find out the unit amounts appropriate for you.

5. How Much Does Botox Cost?

At Lucere, Botox is priced at $10/unit. Once you have had your complimentary consultation with our board-certified dermatologist and highly trained injectable nurses, the number of units for the targeted areas you desire will be determined.

6. How Long Does Botox Take to Work?

Botox begins working 24 to 48 hours after being injected, however, do not expect to see full results and that ‘Botox effect’ until 2 full weeks after treatment. When Botox starts to work, you will feel a slight tightening of your muscles, noticing a beautiful reduction in face lines and a more youthful appearance. crow feet around eyes

7. How Long Do Botox Injections Last?

Botox injections typically last between 3 to 4 months, but again, the timeframe varies between individuals and their body’s ability to metabolize the neuromodulator.

8. Does Botox Hurt?

When administered by a professional, Botox should not be a painful experience. At most, you will feel a tiny prick or pinch-like feeling that will only last seconds.

9. Can You Still Make Expressions after a Botox Treatment?

Botox should never leave you with a ‘frozen’ effect. There is such a thing as too much Botox! When Botox is done correctly, you should still be able to make expressions, while having a relaxed, well-rested face with no lines. For that reason, it’s essential to see an expert. Botox is half science, half art, and when your injections are put in the wrong area or are off by even a millimetre, it can change your expressions – and not for the better! It’s your injectors experience and technique that will matter most in the type of results you will receive, and at Lucere, our expert Cosmetic Injectors are highly trained and will leave you with the results you dream of.

10. Are There Any Side Effects to Botox?

Many of our clients wonder what they can expect after a Botox injection, or if there are any dangers to look out for. If administered correctly by a highly trained professional, Botox has very few side effects. You may experience a little redness, but this effect shouldn’t last too long. Slight bruising, though rare, can also occur. We refer to Botox as the “lunch time facelift,” as you can come into our clinic on your lunch break, get your Botox, and return to work with no problem. lifting eyebrows with botox

Even upon lifting her eyebrows, our client’s forehead lines have been eliminated providing her with a more softened look.

11. Are There Any Risks Associated with Botox?

Botox is a relatively safe treatment that doesn’t come with many risks, however, the treatment should always be performed by a qualified medical professional to ensure the right dosages are administered and the right techniques are used. Allowing someone without the right qualifications or expertise to perform the treatment may lead to frozen expressions, results that are not symmetrical, and even muscle drooping.

12. Can You Fix Bad Botox?

There are limited interventions for Botox treatments that have left you with undesirable results. If, for example, you didn’t get enough Botox, it is easy to administer further units to feel the full effects of the treatment. If you notice a droopy eyebrow for instance, we can strategically inject to lift the brow. However, unlike fillers, Botox fixes are quite limited, and if nothing can be done for your specific case, your only solution is to give yourself time until the treatment begins to wear and then go to an expert for a better experience. That’s why it’s extremely important to research your injector well, and only go to highly trained, experienced injectors, like our board-certified dermatologist and nurses here at Lucere, for optimal results. botox treatment between eyes

Botox was also used to treat the area between the eyebrows, known as Glabella, giving our client a less harsh frown.

13. Can Using Botox on Your Forehead Cause Your Brows to Sag?

Yes and no. If done correctly, you should not experience any sagging eyebrows. Like we mentioned above, Botox is part science and part art, and that is why it’s important to see a highly experienced professional for injections, as they will take into consideration many factors such as the height, shape and arch of your brow. If your Botox injections aren’t administered properly, your forehead muscles can relax too much, creating a heavy, tired look as your eyebrows will droop.

14. Is there a Right Age for Botox?

No! Botox can be used by younger clients in their 20s as a preventative measure to reduce the production of fine lines and wrinkles before getting worse. It is a great treatment in your 30s to keep skin looking fresh and vibrant giving you a more youthful look. Clients in their 40s and 50s benefit from Botox as it rejuvenates their skin, reducing the effects of the aging process on their faces. No matter your age, Botox will enhance your overall appearance significantly, helping you Look Good. Not Done.
